Ukrainian authorities have identified the body of the father of an 8-year-old boy , who had earlier provided a DNA sample to aid in the search following deadly Kharkiv hypermarket attack. The boy, Mykhailo, and his mother sought assistance from law enforcement on 26 May.

The deceased, a 38-year-old man, worked at the “Epicentr” hypermarket, which was struck by Russian forces on 25 May. The identification of his body was confirmed by forensic experts from the National Police of Ukraine.

On 26 May, Mykhailo did not see his father return from work. Accompanied by his mother, he approached the investigative team stationed near the devastated store. There, the boy provided a DNA sample, which specialists later used to confirm the identity of the deceased.

As of 6:00 am on 28 May, the National Police of Ukraine had identified 16 bodies. The attack resulted in 18 fatalities and 48 injuries.

On 27 May, local services discovered an unexploded ordnance 80 metres from the “Epicentr” site, indicating a deliberate tactic by Russian forces aimed at endangering the civilian population of Kharkiv.
