Brussels European Quarter
A new brand for the Brussels European Quarter has been formally launched.

It took place in the building of the Brussels Commissioner for Europe and International Organisations (CEIO) in the heart of the European Quarter.

The brand bears the name ‘European Quarter Brussels’ and represents a new strategy for the neighbourhood.

After the North Quarter, the Brussels European Quarter is now getting a new brand too.

Organisers say “there is a clear strategy behind this.”

A spokesman added, “Indeed, the Brussels Capital Region wants to ensure a better balance between living and working in the quarter.”

The intention, he said, is also to change perceptions of the neighbourhood.

“The European neighbourhood in Brussels refers to the area around most of the European institutions. It is a very wide area located on the territory of the municipalities of Brussels, Etterbeek and Ixelles.

“This is the main centre of international employment in the Brussels Capital Region.

“Because of the importance of the European institutions, the quarter has acquired an institutional image.

“This was also due to the lack of stores, housing and high-quality public spaces in the European neighbourhood. So the federal government, the Brussels Capital Region and the three municipalities put their heads together to redevelop the neighbourhood.”

The result, he said, “a shared vision with sustainable development, improved mobility and an enhancement of the functional mix in the quarter as its focal points.”

The aim is to develop a mixed-use neighbourhood with a wider range of housing, high quality public spaces and cultural activities for all.

Particular attention is being paid to the role that public spaces and buildings can play in climate change. European Quarter Brussels Residents, stakeholders and employees of the neighbourhood also set out to create a new brand identity for the quarter.

This aims to promote assets such as Cinquantenaire Park, Leopold Park, lively commercial centres (Jourdan, Merode, Luxembourg, Jean Monnet) and the quarter’s world renowned museums.
