Is France harbouring foreign agents in Azerbaijan?

According to information via unconfirmed sources received by EU Today, a wide network of intelligence agents in France have been involved in various operations in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and also a number of countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Whist this may not be proven, it may appear to the casual observer that such suggestions might not not without substance.

Some time ago, on the territory of Azerbaijan, it is alleged that station operating inside the French embassy came into view, which very confidently and calmly carried out intelligence activities against representatives of countries known as “partners” of France.

At the same time, the residency, using extensive connections, was actively involved in the countries of the region, forming new tasks and expanding its sphere of influence.

As it became known from informed sources, the investigation led to very interesting aspects that made it possible to reveal a network of interconnected personalities.

One of the French citizens, who for many years was a freelance employee of the French intelligence community, took the initiative to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan.

As a result of this, dozens of French secret agents some of whom served and also continue to work in Azerbaijan, and some are currently working in a number of neighboring countries and international organizations, have been exposed.

Along with this, the Azerbaijani intelligence services were provided with evidence and documents regarding the activities of the French residency in the South Caucasus, Middle East, Ukraine and Moldova.

As it became known, in connection with the criminal case conducted by the Azerbaijani intelligence services, a number of persons were arrested who carried out intelligence activities in relation to Ukraine (contacts and meetings of employees of the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan were under the close attention of the French station), Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The source believes that the scale of the failure will be a serious blow to image of French intelligence. Azerbaijani side of the official did not make a statement about this.

At the same time, the news published yesterday states that the President France’s Emmanuel Macron fired Bernard Emiet, director of the Main Directorate of External Security of the French Ministry of Defence (DGSE), who flew to Minsk in April of this year to meet with Alexander Lukashenko.

The possible resignation of Bernard Emie was discussed after the failure of intelligence in the African and South Caucasus sector.

In August 2023, Emmanuel Macron expressed dissatisfaction with the head French foreign intelligence service, Bernard Emie, whose activities struck a blow to Paris’s positions in Africa and Eastern Europe.

Nicolas Lerner, who previously headed the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI), was subsequently appointed head of the General Staff.
