Fun and games galore in the Belgian Ardennes

Looking for ideas and inspiration for a late summer short break?

If so, Vielsalm, located less than two hours' drive from Brussels in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, is an ideal holiday destination for nature enthusiasts, mountain biking or a hike in the woods.

There is plenty to visit for everyone and that includes Aqua Mundo, a terrific indoor swimming pool which makes for a particularly great alternative if - as is always possible in Belgium - the weather is inclement. The centre is part of Centre Parcs Les Ardennes and, as well as for residents, it is also open for day visitors.

It’s also environmentally friendly as very little chlorine is used in the "tropical" pools (maintained at 29 Celsius throughout the year).

The park itself, spread over a large area, has recently undergone major improvements, including to Aqua Mundo which is a sub tropical pool with wave and outdoor pools, jacuzzi and two new slides including the “duo racer.”

The pool area reserved for the little ones has also been upgraded and expanded.

Other activities now available here include archery, badminton, squash and climbing. There is also mini golf, part of which is in the dark, and cycle hire (including electric cycles).

The latest and newest addition is called “Action Factory” which features indoor games and amusements for the kids and is ideal if the weather turns nasty.

It all makes for a great day out (or longer, if possible) for young and old alike.

The whole complex, easily accessible via the motorway from Brussels, is set among quite wonderful Ardennes scenery, with some lovely walks nearby, and is well worth checking out if you’re in the area - whatever time of the year.
