It is known as the most beautiful F1 circuit in the world - Spa-Francorchamps, the famous track which hosts the Belgian grand prix every year.
But what's less known is that it is also a venue for guided tours
The tours last up to 90 minutes and take you behind the scenes at this racing favourite which, as well as hosting of big race every August, is also the venue for the Spa 24 Hours and 1000 km Spa endurance races.
Guides will explain why it has long been one of the favourite circuits of the drivers because of the variety of its layout in the mountainous landscape of the Belgian Ardennes which allows them to push their abilities to the absolute limit.
Tours are ideal for a family, with friends or colleagues and school trips.
The multilingual guides take you around all the key points of the circuit: the 24 hours paddocks and F1 paddocks, press room, the commentators' booths, the legendary podium where the greatest drivers have stood and even a place which is normally off-limits: the Race Control room, the true nerve centre of the circuit.
The development of the circuit, its legendary track and eventful history is all explained.Did you know, for example, that the most famous part of the circuit is the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge? This section consists of a succession of bends that starts after a slight left downhill leading to a bowl followed by a curve on the right steep slope.
It is named after the Eau Rouge, a small, 15km long stream in the Belgian province of Liège. It starts in the Hautes Fagnes ("High Fens") and ends in Challes, near Stavelot in the river Amblève.
Spa-Francorchamps, located near Stavelot, is also famous for its meteoric whims, which means that one part of the 7km track can be wet while another completely dry - a “bit of a nightmare for drivers”, according to the guide.
Prices are €11.50/adult and €7.50/child and visits start at 2 pm unless indicated otherwise at the Ster entrance. You also have the possibility throughout the year to reserve a private guide for your group/company (max. 20 persons/guide).
Every day between 16 March and 14 November, the circuit also hosts an activity on the track (for the full list of events see the website link).
If you doubted the popularity of this place, listen to Lewis Hamilton who says, “Like Monaco, Silverstone and Monza, Spa is one of the historic tours I loved watching on TV when I was younger. It is also a beautiful place, a circuit where you can push the F1 to their limits”.
