Back by popular demand: that’s the 2019 edition of the street festival, Namur en Mai.
The arts festival returns to Namur, the Walloon capital, from 30 May to 1 June for three days of magic that will delight young and old alike.
More than 350 free or paid shows by 70 companies, music and animations will transform the city over the holiday weekend.
There is something for everyone, ranging from “Noises of the scenes" by the Company Les P'tits Bras, who specialise in aerobatics and comedy, to the mysteries of Benjamin Ghislain, another artist performing over the festival weekend.
There are jugglers, a “mentalist”, musicians and fire shows and lots more besides.
This year, scores of different shows will be on offer for visitors and lovers of fairground arts.
Even better news is that you do not even necessarily have to buy a ticket. This is because the proportion of free performances has increased compared to 2018. This year, more than 60% will be free compared with 50% previously. In total, there will be hundreds of performances and 73 shows that promise to bring Namur to life during the weekend of the Ascension.
"It's a real pleasure for us to welcome such a large number of high quality artists from around the world," says Samuel Chappel, the event director.
"We are pleased to see that year after year, Namur en Mai continues to attract more and more people, both visitors public and artists who perform here.”
The fun extends to the evenings with a free concert in Place Saint-Aubain.
And that’s not all: the traditional Ferris wheel will be replaced this year by a giant slide with a descent of more than 15metres!
