Salon du Chocolat serves up tasty New Year treat

For the 6th year in a row, the Salon du Chocolat returns to Brussels Tour & Taxis from 22 to 24 February 2019.

The prestigious Chocolate Fashion Show at Salon du Chocolat promises to be one of the highlights of this major gourmet event.

This year’s theme will be "naturalness" along with “every flavour comes from nature”.

“Flavour” has been chosen because it is one of the most basic criteria when choosing a bar or a chocolate. There are many varieties: dark, milk, white, blond … and now ruby. The diversity of flavours is endless: from one variety of cocoa to another, from one region to another and according to the art of working the paste.

“Nature” is the co-theme because “the cocoa bean is” – according to Alexander Van Humboldt – “a phenomenon that nature has never repeated; at no other time has nature concentrated such a wealth of valuable nourishment into such a small space as in the cocoa bean”.

Today, natural, authentic and sustainable products have become a major concern for consumers.

As a result, the Salon du Chocolat aims to innovate while remaining faithful to the elements for which it is famous every year.

These include its many exhibitors – artisan chocolatiers and the key big names in Belgian and international chocolate, and its producer countries, such as Peru.

This year, once again, there will be around fifteen chocolate outfits for men, women and children to delight audiences who appreciate glamour and creativity.

There will be “live” demonstrations of recipes with top chefs, followed by a tasting session for everyone in the audience (Pastry Show).

Visitors can also enjoy presentations-tastings on chocolate-related topics, new trends and ways to combine food and drink with chocolate.

In addition there will be numerous workshops for children and adults in which everyone can get stuck in…to chocolate.

Look out too for book signings, chocolate sculpture exhibitions, competitions to win boxes of chocolates, tasting sessions,beer-and-chocolate and coffee-and-chocolate pairings.

The first names of the chocolatiers and designers duos of the 2019 fashion show have been named. They are: Les chocolats Belvas & Lauranne De Jaeger;Frederic Blondeel, elected « Chocolatier of the Year 2018 » by Gault&Millau, & Peruvian designer Ricardo Davila;Institut Émile Gryzon & Gohar Gabrielyan;Jean-Luc Decluzeau & Angel Sewing;Millesime Chocolat & Giovanni Biasolo; Nadia Flecha Guazo (Cho-kolate);Valentino Chocolatier & Sixtine Anne de Molina; Van Dender & Melissa Martin Ciudad and Laurent Gerbaud & Patou Saint Germain.

Other chocolatiers and designers should confirm their participation soon.

The spectacular “chocolate” creations will be previewed at the inaugural evening on Thursday, February 21 (open to the public - tickets pre-sale only) and every day during the Salon at 5pm.

Outside these moments, they will be the subject of an exhibition for the duration of the Salon.
