Domain Chicotot: A jewel in the crown of Nuits St. Georges
I am often asked "what is your favourite wine?" Its impossible to answer, but if I were up against the wall and about to be blindfolded I suspect my final wishes would involve a bottle of Nuits St. Georges, writes Gary Cartwright.
Actually I could narrow it down still further to a bottle from Domain Chicotot. In April I was there, and as well as meeting the winemaker himself, I got to have a very nice chat with his dad.
Those of us who speak French rather badly assume that the name of the town refers to a dream involving St. George, but it is not so. It actually refers to St. George's walnuts, something which would have every English schoolboy crying with laughter.
Enjoy the video, and if you get the chance, enjoy the wine. Contact details for Chicotot are there. Nuits St. Georges is a lovely town, knock on the door of Chicotot and if you are lucky you might find yourself invited in for a chat and a glass or two.
