Opinion Poll Suggests Move Away From Major Players In Ukraine's Forthcoming Elections

In March 2019 Ukrainians will go to the polls to elect a new president and a new parliament. According to opinion polls just released, if the elections in Ukraine were to take place this Sunday, six parties would be returned to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament.

The poll suggests that the Batkivshchyna Party led by Yulia Tymoshenko would fare the best in both presidential and parliamentary elections with 11.2% & 10.2% of the vote respectively. Anatoliy Gritsenko's Gromadyanska Pozitsiya polls second in both elections (9.4% & 9.3% respectively). The poll suggests that current president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko could finish in 4th place with 8.1% and his party performing slightly lower, in 5th place in the parliamentary elections.

Surveys on political preferences in Eastern Ukraine (Kharkiv Oblast and regions of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts under the control of Ukraine) showed that candidates Vadim Rabinovich and Yuriy Boyko are the most popular politicians there. If the presidential elections were to be held this Sunday, then 15.2% and 12.6% will vote for them respectively, Following them are Yulia Tymoshenko (9.2%), Petro Poroshenko (8.3%) and Anatoliy Gritsenko (4.5%).

37% of respondents had already decided to vote during the presidential elections, although they were not prepared to name the candidate they would support.

A so-called anti-rating question, "What is the name of a political party you will never vote for?", suggests that the 37% of the vote will depart from the major political parties.

The results of the survey were presented by the International Research Center BURI (Belgian-Ukrainian Research Institute). The study was conducted on July 25-31, 2018. The total number of respondents is 2,048 (representative sampling). The survey method is a direct interview. The error is no more than 2.3%.
