Paolo Gentiloni: EU should prevent divergence between euro zone economies during COVID-19 crisis.

The 19 Eurozone governments should consider joint borrowing to fight the coronavirus pandemic to prevent more divergence between euro zone economies, European Economics Commissioner and former prime minister of Italy Paolo Gentiloni said on Monday.

“We cannot imagine that this crisis could increase the divergence among euro zone countries, this would be very dangerous,” Gentiloni told a Bruegel think tank seminar.

“The role of the common (debt) tool is to rebalance the risk of augmenting divergence,” he said.
