"European Parliament" media outlet exposed as Russian propaganda machine
The European External Action Service’s East StratCom Task Force has claimed that EP Today, which describes itself as a “monthly news magazine for the European Parliament,” isn’t quite what it seems.
“With a name including one of the major institutions of the European Union … 145 000 Facebook fans and an average output of 25 articles per day, one may get the impression of a serious news outlet that is an established, influential and informed part of EU politics,” the task force wrote.
However, the EEAS says that many articles that appear on eptoday.com are word-for-word “copies of articles by RT.com — one of the main Russian misinforming outlets.”
Whilst EPToday claims to have staff operating in Brussels, the taskforce found it only had a mailbox address and none of its editors were to be found on social media. The site’s four Facebook page administrators are said to be situated in India.
“Since 24 October 2018, 47% of the articles are word-for-word copies of articles from RT.com,” reported East StratCom taskforce.
