NATO Secretary General at North Atlantic Council in North Macedonia, 03 JUN 2019

Opening remarks by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, 3 June 2019.

On his arrival, Mr. Stoltenberg praised the courage and determination shown to resolve the country’s name issue and said he looked forward to welcoming North Macedonia as the thirtieth member of the Alliance: “The benefits to your nation are already clear. Investment in North Macedonia is up three-fold in the space of a year and you already have a seat at NATO’s table, taking part in the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in February, and our Foreign Ministers’ meeting in April.”

While in Skopje, Mr. Stoltenberg held a meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev about the current security environment and the accession process for North Macedonia. He also met with President of the Assembly Talat Xhaferi.
