The debate was organised by the members of the human rights subcommittee and the civil liberties committee. The meeting provided a timely opportunity to address human rights achievements and global challenges on the matter. It focussed on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as other key topics, among them artificial intelligence, migration, and climate change.

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration, which established the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The European Parliament remains strongly committed to supporting the independence of the OHCHR and its leadership role in protecting and promoting human rights across the globe.
