NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg received Belgium’s highest honour, the Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold, in Brussels on Friday.

The award was presented by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib. The Grand Cordon in the Order of Leopold was established in 1832 and is Belgium’s oldest and highest honour of chivalry.

In remarks following the ceremony, the Secretary General praised Belgium, a founding member of NATO, for its contributions to the Alliance, including hosting its main headquarters in Brussels and its military headquarters in Mons.

Mr Stoltenberg described Belgium as having “a special place” in his heart and praised Belgian’s people, culture and cuisine.
