Attacks on Opposition Politicians and Activists in Georgia
In Georgia, a series of attacks has been directed towards opposition politicians and activists, leading to injuries sustained by at least four individuals.

These attacks occurred on the evening of May 8th, as reported by various sources. According to reports, unidentified assailants targeted representatives of the opposition and activists participating in protests against the adoption of the “foreign agents” law.

Footage aired by the Formula channel revealed an incident where a group of five individuals assaulted Dmitry Chikovani, a representative of the Saakashvili party “United National Movement”, outside his residence.

Additionally, other individuals subjected to attacks include motorcyclist Lasha Gviniashvili, the brother of the leader of the “Girchi – More Freedom” party, Professor Giu Japaridze, and the deputy executive director of the Georgian branch of Transparency International, Giorgi Oniani.

These assaults occurred in different parts of Tbilisi, and all victims required medical attention afterward. Despite these alarming incidents, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia refrained from providing any comments on the matter.

Moreover, reports suggest that since May 7th, activists participating in protests against the controversial “Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence” have received threatening phone calls from unknown numbers, with some facing threats of violence.

Dozens of such incidents have been reported, with some calls even targeting the relatives of activists.

Natia Kuparashvili, the director of the Alliance of Regional Broadcasters of Georgia, received several threatening calls, with the first originating from a purported Ukrainian number and subsequent ones from alleged German numbers.

Boris Chele Kurua, a member of the “Girchi” party, disclosed that during one such call, the caller mentioned his address and threatened him with murder. Similar threats were directed at another “Girchi” representative, Niki Mosiashvili.

Opposition broadcaster Pirveli alleges that these series of threatening calls were orchestrated through call centers controlled by the government. However, representatives of the leading “Georgian Dream” party deny any involvement in these incidents.
