Referring to a “Belarusian military report”, the Kremlin said on Monday that Ukraine had been moving more troops, weapons and military equipment into its northern Zhytomyr region, which borders Belarus.
Peskov announced that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko would attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kazakhstan on July 3-4th.
They plan to discuss various matters “if necessary”.
Belarus, a close ally of Russia supporting Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, announced last week that it was reinforcing its border with Ukraine following a security incident.
The country has deployed a division of multiple launch rocket systems to test their combat readiness.
The Belarusian border guard service claimed that its forces had downed a quadcopter on Wednesday, which had illegally crossed the border from Ukraine to gather information about Belarusian border infrastructure.
Earlier last week, the border service claimed that materials for a homemade bomb had been discovered concealed in the same area.
Additionally, it reported the presence of a unit of pro-Ukrainian Russian fighters in a Ukrainian region bordering Belarus.
