Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and a delegation of the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic, led by President of the Assembly Augusto Santos Silva, discussed support for Ukraine and recovery assistance during a meeting in Kyiv.

“We are grateful for the efforts of the Portuguese Assembly to support Ukraine: financial, humanitarian and in terms of the EU sanctions packages. We appreciate the prompt transfer of weapons, equipment and everything necessary, as well as the training of our military,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine noted that Portugal’s support for Ukraine recovery plan was equally important, including assistance in humanitarian demining. He called on Portuguese businesses to invest in Ukraine now.

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO. According to the Head of Government, Ukraine intends to be fully prepared to start negotiations on EU membership by the end of the year.

“Portugal has 10 years of experience in joining the European Union. Your example is valuable for us and we are interested in going through this process in a much shorter period of time,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.

For his part, the President of the Portuguese Assembly assured that Ukraine had the multi-party support of the Parliament and this would continue in the future. Augusto Santos Silva also noted that Portugal was ready to share its experience of European integration.
