AnewZ, Baku based global media TV channel has released a new installment of its Frontline documentary series titled “Libya: 15 Years After Gaddafi’s fall,” offering an in-depth and on-the-ground examination of one of the region’s most complex and least accessible political landscapes.
Fifteen years after the 2011 revolution and the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya remains suspended between fragmentation and recovery. Competing centers of power, armed groups, foreign influence, and the struggle for control over strategic resources continue to define the country’s trajectory. Despite Libya’s critical geopolitical position, much of what is happening inside the country has remained beyond the reach of international media.
For the first time in many years, the situation in Libya is examined firsthand on the ground.
As part of the Frontline documentary series, the AnewZ filming crew secured rare and exclusive access to restricted locations, strategic facilities, and key decision-makers — areas typically closed to foreign press. The film combines exclusive footage with firsthand interviews involving officials, experts, and local communities, providing a clearer understanding of Libya’s current realities and future prospects.
The documentary was led on the ground by journalist Anastasiya Lavrina. She set out to address a central question: what has become of Libya fifteen years after the overthrow of the Gaddafi regime?
Reflecting on the project, Anastasiya Lavrina noted: “It was important for us to show Libya beyond the familiar headlines and to look inside what is really happening on the ground. Many still describe Libya as a failed state, but the reality is far more complex. This is a country where real efforts are being made to restore institutions and regain its former standing. Libya holds the largest proven oil reserves on the African continent, and its strategic importance is only increasing. Most importantly, people there continue to hope that Libya will finally succeed in forming a unified government and move toward lasting stability.”
The release continues AnewZ’s commitment to in-depth, field-based journalism and documentary storytelling from regions experiencing conflict, political transition, and geopolitical change.
