A large-scale overnight drone assault on Kyiv by Russian forces has resulted in three fatalities and at least ten injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities. Among the deceased are a man and his five-year-old daughter. An 11-month-old infant is reported to be among the injured.
The attack occurred during the early hours of Sunday, 23 March, targeting multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, debris from downed drones struck several residential buildings, causing fires and structural damage. Emergency services have been active at all affected sites since the incident.
Initial reports from Mayor Klitschko stated that seven people had been injured, with one person requiring hospitalisation. Others received medical treatment at the scene. Later in the morning, the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) confirmed that the death toll had risen to three and that the number of injured had increased to ten. The administration identified a five-year-old girl and her father among the dead.
“According to current information, three people have died, including a five-year-old child,” said a statement from the KCMA. “Ten more people were injured. Among the deceased are a father and his young daughter. The youngest injured victim is just 11 months old.”
The Dniprovskyi and Podilskyi districts of Kyiv sustained damage to multi-storey residential buildings, with fires breaking out on upper floors following drone debris impacts. A non-residential facility, identified as a food establishment, was also hit in the Dniprovskyi district. In Holosiivskyi, fragments landed in an industrial area, though no casualties have been reported from that location.
Photographs published by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and National Police show the aftermath of the attack, including scorched building facades, emergency responders on-site, and firefighting operations in progress. The full extent of structural damage has not yet been disclosed, but several buildings reportedly suffered fire-related destruction.
The strikes are part of a continuing series of UAV-based attacks launched by Russian forces against Ukrainian cities. The assault on Kyiv is among the most serious recent incidents involving civilian casualties in the capital.
The attack came as delegations from Ukraine and Russia are set to hold separate meetings with United States officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, as part of ongoing efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and bring an end to the three-year war.
