Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida in Brussels for 29th EU-Japan summit

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, representing the EU, will meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the 29th EU-Japan summit in Brussels. Japan is the EU’s closest strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The leaders will review progress made in implementing:

  • the connectivity partnership
  • the green alliance
  • the digital partnership

They are also expected to discuss the following topics:

  • international and regional developments – including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine – China and the Indo-Pacific
  • cooperation on security issues
  • economic security
