Bratislava, Slovakia – Slovakia’s Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced that he had asked President Zuzana Caputova to relieve him of his duties. This comes after several ministers resigned from his cabinet, weakening it in its caretaker capacity before elections in September. Heger is due to meet with President Caputova to discuss the appointment of a new caretaker prime minister.
Heger was appointed as Prime Minister in April 2021, following the resignation of his predecessor Peter Pellegrini. Heger’s cabinet was tasked with leading the country through the coronavirus pandemic and preparing for the upcoming elections.
Heger’s resignation comes after several ministers resigned from his cabinet, citing a lack of trust in the Prime Minister. The resignations have weakened the cabinet’s ability to serve in its caretaker capacity, leading Heger to ask President Caputova to relieve him of his duties.
Heger is due to meet with President Caputova later today to discuss the appointment of a new caretaker prime minister. It is expected that the President will appoint a new prime minister in the coming days.
