Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of United States President Donald Trump, is expected to visit Romania on 28 April 2025, just one week before the first round of the country’s presidential elections, according to a report by 4media.ro, citing sources close to the event’s organisers.
The visit forms part of a wider tour of Central and Eastern Europe, which also includes stops in Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Belgrade and Sofia.
In Bucharest, Trump Jr. is due to attend a business event titled Trump Business Vision 2025. Organisers state that the visit is not political in nature and that no meetings with Romanian politicians are currently scheduled. One of the organisers of the event, Romanian businessman Adrian Thiess, confirmed the visit to G4Media.ro.
The event’s Romanian media partner is România TV, a news channel reportedly controlled by Sebastian Ghiță, a controversial businessman and former MP who fled Romania in 2017 amid criminal investigations. Ghiță has remained active in regional business and political circles from his current base in Serbia.
Trump Jr.’s visit to Romania follows a recent appearance in Belgrade, where he was hosted by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. That visit, according to Romanian media reports, coincided with a meeting between Sebastian Ghiță and former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta. Speaking in a G4Media interview, Ponta confirmed he had met Ghiță in Belgrade on 11 March during Trump Jr.’s visit but declined to explain the presence of Ghiță at the event. He stated that “Mr Ghiță is not part of my entourage” but provided no further details.
In a separate development, Trump Jr. has previously commented on the Romanian political scene. On 7 December 2024, he made a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), reacting to the Constitutional Court’s decision to annul the first round of Romania’s presidential election.
Wow, look at what’s happening in Romania! The Constitutional Court just canceled the first round of their presidential election. Another Soros/Marxist attempt at rigging the outcome & denying the will of the people. She’s going to lose, and they know it. https://t.co/F71dr26hNR

Donald Trump Jr., a businessman and former television personality, is co-executive of The Trump Organization alongside his younger brother, Eric Trump. The organisation oversees a portfolio of global real estate, hospitality and licensing ventures. He has been a prominent public figure in the United States since his father’s entry into politics.
Although officially a non-political business engagement, the timing of Trump Jr.’s visit to Bucharest, coupled with his recent remarks regarding Romania’s electoral process, has drawn attention from political analysts. His commentary in December 2024 came amid a turbulent electoral cycle in Romania, which saw the Constitutional Court intervene in response to legal challenges surrounding the conduct of the first round of voting.
The annulment of that vote created political tension domestically and was met with varied reactions internationally. While Trump Jr.’s comments were widely shared on social media, they were not accompanied by any official statement from the US government.
România TV’s involvement as media partner for the Trump Business Vision 2025 event is also likely to attract scrutiny. The broadcaster is known for its close ties to Ghiță, who remains a polarising figure in Romanian public life. Ghiță fled the country after being charged with corruption-related offences but has since maintained visibility through media holdings and political commentary from abroad.
Adrian Thiess, a familiar figure in Romanian public affairs, has previously been involved in organising high-profile visits, including attempts to bring international political figures to Bucharest. Details of the Trump Business Vision 2025 event, including the guest list and topics to be addressed, have not yet been made public.
Trump Jr.’s visit to Romania is scheduled to take place in the final days of the election campaign, with the first round of presidential voting set for 5 May. It remains to be seen whether his presence will influence the political climate or be confined strictly to business matters, as organisers insist.
