President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has approved General Valeriy Zaluzhny as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has sent the necessary request to the British authorities.

In an evening statement, President Zelensky confirmed Zaluzhny’s interest in pursuing a diplomatic career. Zelensky stated, “Today, I have endorsed our nation’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

“General Valeriy Zaluzhny himself expressed his desire for this diplomatic role.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has initiated the required procedures for approval. Zelensky stressed the importance of strengthening the alliance between Ukraine and Britain.

Zaluzhny’s nomination follows the departure of Vadym Prystaiko, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom by President Zelensky on July 20, 2020.

Prystaiko’s tenure concluded in July 2023 after remarks made by President Zelensky regarding the then-British Defence Minister Ben Wallace’s comments on the need for greater gratitude towards allies.

Zaluzhny’s appointment underscores Ukraine’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom.

As Ambassador, Zaluzhny will play a key role in promoting bilateral cooperation, particularly in security, trade, and cultural exchange.

The United Kingdom and Ukraine have a history of cooperation and mutual support.

The UK has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, particularly in the face of Russian aggression.

Strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations is essential for advancing shared interests and addressing common challenges.

Zaluzhny brings a wealth of experience, having served in various military and diplomatic roles.

His expertise and dedication to advancing Ukraine’s interests will be crucial in furthering the bilateral relationship between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The appointment of Valeriy Zaluzhny as Ambassador to the United Kingdom reflects Ukraine’s strategic vision for its foreign policy objectives.
