Los Angeles, California: Following a two-year campaign led by the Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) educating public officials about the threat of state-sponsored Holocaust distortion, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) has released a special report confirming the dangers of this growing phenomenon.
“The IHRA report and briefing released today confirms what we at ICAN have been warning public officials about over the past two years – there is an ongoing campaign led by Eastern European governments to erase the Holocaust crimes committed by individuals now lauded national heroes,” said Dillon Hosier, CEO at ICAN. “What’s worse, is that the counterfeit Holocaust histories crafted by Eastern European governments may easily bleed beyond the borders of the European Union into our textbooks and classrooms here in the United States.”
ICAN’s campaign highlighting the threat of state-sponsored Holocaust denial and distortion included high-profile educational seminars, local legislative initiatives, and educational programs, specifically including the following:
- High-profile cities in the United States, including Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood, have passed resolutions condemning European governments, especially the government of Lithuania, for actively rewriting Holocaust history and whitewashing the crimes of Holocaust perpetrators.
- Over 25 cities across the country honored author and journalist Silvia Foti, and Holocaust researcher Grant Gochin, for their efforts to combat state-sponsored Holocaust denial and distortion.
- More than 20 educational seminars and policy briefings were held over the past 2 years featuring elected officials and preeminent Holocaust historians warning about the dangerous threat of state-sponsored Holocaust denial and distortion.
ICAN’s campaign to educate elected officials and policymakers about the threat of state-sponsored Holocaust denial and distortion, and to institute policies to reverse this growing trend, will continue into 2022 with more legislative actions, policy briefings, and educational events.
