On Thursday, Swedish police apprehended four individuals suspected of preparing a terrorist crime associated with violent Islamist extremism, as reported by both the Sapo security service and the prosecution agency.
According to a spokesperson from Sapo, the apprehension is believed to be linked to serious organised crime activities and has potential international connections associated with the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
The spokesperson declined to provide further details regarding the suspected ties to IS, the identities of the individuals in question, or the specifics of the alleged planned attack.
The arrests were made following an extensive investigation into the matter, as stated by the police in an official statement.
The arrests occurred within the Stockholm area, confirmed by the national prosecution service in a separate announcement.
Earlier on the same day, Swedish media outlets had reported that a significant number of law enforcement officers, led by the security service, conducted the apprehensions in Tyreso, a southern suburb of the Swedish capital.
