The historic Seventh Central Convention of the United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) held in Kotli saw the party’s Central Cabinet elected.
The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) successfully held its historic seventh central convention “United Kashmir and People’s Rights Convention” on August 24-25th in Kotli, Azad Kashmir.
During this historical convention a new central cabinet was elected, demonstrating the party’s unwavering commitment to the principles of unity, peace, and the liberation of Jammu and Kashmir.
The convention was attended by central leaders and members of UKPNP’s central, zonal, regional, and overseas branches with greatest enthusiasm and commitments. Participants arrived in large numbers from different regions of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, forming a large rally that marched through Kotli city before arriving at the convention venue.
The city and venue echoed with passionate and revolutionary slogans such as “We Want Freedom!” “Freedom is Our Right!” “End forced division” “Leave our Kashmir!” “Quit Our country,” “Occupation is unacceptable!” “Our resources, your control is unacceptable!”
The city and convention site were adorned with party banners, posters, flags, and billboards. The banners demanded the repeal of the 1974 Act and an end to human rights violations. A significant number of women, as well as leaders from secular and progressive left-wing parties from Pakistan nationalist leaders, human rights and civil society activists, journalists, and media personalities attended the convention.
The newly elected central cabinet includes:
Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri as Central Chairman; Madam Tania Gul Senior Vice Chairperson; Afraiz Shaheen Vice Chairman; Sardar Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan Secretary General; Raja Muhammad Azam Deputy Secretary General; Ishtiaq Ahmed Mir Chief Organizer; Dupty Organizer Comrade Nasir, Mahboob Bhatti Joint Secretary; Syeda Nighat Gardezi Secretary Women’s Affairs; Sardar Nasir Aziz Khan Central Spokesperson; Jamil Maqsood President Foreign Affairs Committee; Faria Atique Secretary Foreign Affairs Committee; Raja Zahid Rajput Secretary Finance Board; Sardar Tikka Khan Tahir Secretary Publicity Board; Syed Musharraf Gilani Secretary Youth Affairs; Basharat Hussain Secretary Labor Affairs; along with International Coordinator, Secretary of Culture, Secretary of Student Affairs, and members of various committees were elected.
Sardar Rashid Yousaf, President of UKPNP North America, administered the oath to the newly elected office bearers.
On this occasion, he congratulated the new central leadership and expressed his hope that the newly elected officials, under the leadership of Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri, would play an active and dynamic role in securing and protecting the rights of the people, for the unity of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and achieving the party’s high ideals.
Sardar Rashid Yousuf Advocate also praised the contributions and efforts of the party’s leaders and workers in North America, the Middle East, and Europe, particularly Sardar Tariq Khan, the party president in the UK, and others.
In his address, Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri stated, “The trust the party has placed in us and the responsibilities assigned to us are a testament to our commitment.
“We assure you that we will prioritise the interests of our party, our people, and our country, and will continue our struggle without falling prey to fear, greed, or compromise until our goals are achieved.”
He noted that since its inception in 1994, UKPNP has faced numerous challenges, including state repression, propaganda, and conspiracies aimed at undermining its peaceful mission.
Despite these obstacles, the party has made significant progress both nationally and internationally. The party remains committed to the rights and freedom of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, fighting against forced division, proxy wars, proxy politics, extremism, terrorism, fundamentalism, regional division, and religious hatred.
He further added that UKPNP has not only become a strong and effective voice for Kashmiri worldwide, including establishing it’s units in the Middle East, North America, the UK, Europe, and other countries, but has also been actively advocating for Kashmiri rights on international platforms.
Through the tireless efforts of its dynamic leaders and activists, UKPNP has established close and strong relations with like-minded, secular, and progressive leaders of various historic nations.
The party has actively represented Kashmiris at major political and diplomatic forums, including the United Nations, the European Parliament, the British House of Commons, and various foreign affairs offices and human rights forums around the world.
On this occasion, the newly elected cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of democracy, human rights, and social justice. The party will continue to challenge the status quo, advocate for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and work based on a policy of mutual respect and cooperation among all nations, nationalities, and communities.
The party will intensify its struggle for the end of the forced division of Jammu and Kashmir, for the rights of the people, peace, unity, harmony, equality, and freedom.
The newly elected cabinet pledged to advance the party’s high ideals, strengthen and consolidate alliances with like-minded secular and progressive parties globally, and leverage its capabilities to promote stability and prosperity in the region.
Guided by its visionary leadership and with the unwavering support of its dedicated members, the party is committed to achieving a peaceful, just, and sustainable resolution to the Kashmir issue and vows to continue its struggle for peace, stability, and prosperity for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the convention, several resolutions were unanimously passed.
These included the ending of the forced division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, lifting restrictions on freedom of expression, abolishing discriminatory laws against nationalist organisations, ending the ban on student unions, expressing deep concern over human rights violations, enforced disappearances and the growing extremism and terrorism in the region.
