Ukrainian drone hits Moscow’s Expo Centre in overnight strike

by EUToday Correspondents

A Ukrainian drone attack has struck Moscow’s Expo Centre, a large exhibition space used for conferences and conventions and situated less than 5km from the Kremlin.

The attack occurred at around 04:00 local time, Russia’s defence ministry said on Telegram.

A witness who was in the area told Reuters news agency the attack had caused “a powerful explosion”. Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport also closed following the incident, Tass said, but was reopened a short time later.

Tass also reported that one of the outer walls of the centre had partially collapsed, citing emergency services. It said the affected area was around 30 sq m (323 sq ft).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently warned that the war was “returning to the territory of Russia” and that this was an “inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process”.
