The ruling Dutch far-right Party for Freedom (PVV), led by Geert Wilders, will join a new alliance in the European Parliament headed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Wilders announced this via X (formerly Twitter):
We are PVV-patriots, we love our nation. Strong and sovereign. Resisting illegal immigration. We defend peace and freedom. And support 🇺🇦. We protect our Judeo-Christian heritage. And our families.
We want to combine forces in the EP and will proudly join #PatriotsforEurope! 💪

Wilders stated that PVV seeks to consolidate its forces in the European Parliament and will “proudly join” the “Alliance of Patriots.”
“We are the PVV patriots. We love our nation—strong and sovereign. We stand against illegal immigration. We protect peace and freedom. And we support Ukraine. We defend our Judeo-Christian heritage and our families,” Wilders remarked.
PVV won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands in November last year and is the largest party in the new right-wing coalition, recently headed by Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
Following Wilders’ announcement, MEPs from six countries will join the new alliance. To achieve the status of a group in the European Parliament, membership must include MEPs from at least seven countries.
Previously, the Spanish far-right party Vox stated it would leave the “European Conservatives and Reformists” (ECR) group in the European Parliament to join Orbán’s new alliance.
Before this, Orbán’s Fidesz party, ANO of former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, the Austrian Freedom Party led by Herbert Kickl, and the Portuguese far-right had already joined the coalition.
The founders of the group hope to attract another heavyweight from France—the National Rally led by Marine Le Pen.
Orbán and Babiš also hope that Matteo Salvini’s Italian League might be interested in joining their alliance, instead of remaining in its current group, “Identity and Democracy.”
Recently, it was reported that the “Alliance of Patriots” failed to attract Poland’s Law and Justice Party (PiS) and the party of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
On 30 June, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, and leader of the Austrian Freedom Party Herbert Kickl announced the formation of a new right-wing alliance in the European Parliament named “Patriots for Europe.” They declared their ambition to make it the “largest faction of European right-wing parties.”
