On Wednesday, Russia executed a series of attacks on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and its surrounding region, resulting in three fatalities and at least six injuries well as damaging the office of Fondation Suisse de Deminage, a Swiss mine-clearing NGO.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, and its adjacent areas, which are close to the Russian border, have been subjected to persistent drone, missile, and guided-bomb assaults since Moscow initiated its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Regional police reported that an attack on the town of Lozova, situated south of Kharkiv, led to the deaths of three individuals and injured six others. Rescue operations were ongoing into the evening.
The governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, stated that an overnight strike caused significant damage to the facade of the office of the Fondation suisse de déminage.
The ceilings of several floors of the building were also affected. Additionally, six vehicles utilized by the NGO’s medical personnel were damaged. Syniehubov emphasised the crucial role of demining initiatives in this region, which is heavily littered with landmines and other hazardous remnants of war.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that the city experienced five separate strikes following Russia’s overnight attack. The most recent strike impacted an industrial area and resulted in six injuries.
According to the police, this attack led to the destruction of unspecified infrastructure, including damage to vehicles.
Syniehubov also mentioned new strikes late in the evening, and local media reported hearing explosions outside the city after midnight. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or additional damage from these incidents.
Russia maintains that it does not intentionally target civilians, yet thousands have been killed and injured in its 29-month-long invasion of Ukraine.
