The Mail Online has made my Sunday Morning for me!
The Mail, whether online or in print, is now famous for typos and for repetition of blocks of text within articles – see today’s ‘Putin on the defensive’ for a good example of the latter – for some time now.
I guess it’s what happens if you don’t employ sub-editors.
The publication now also seems to favour headlines reminiscent of the Daily Sport, a now defunct soft-porn tabloid which is now available only online.
First the headline ‘NHS guidance for staff tells them to ask MEN whether they are PREGNANT ahead of X-ray procedures,’ caught my attention.
“All patients aged between 12 and 55 at several hospitals must be questioned on their status, regardless of their sex,” the Mail informs us.
I do not for one moment doubt the accuracy of the story, the British people have gone collectively mad over the last couple of decades, with institutions such as the NHS leading the way.
But having allowed myself a brief grin, my eye was drawn to an advert at the top of the page – Mail Online carries many adverts, often for clothes -for a T-Shirt.
Ordinarily I do not click on ads on any website, but this one did attract my attention as it appeared to be the first Christmas ad of the year.
Not only the first Christmas ad of the year, not only the best Christmas ad of the year, but the best Christmas ad ever..!
It is an advert for a T-Shirt proclaiming “Santa Knows You’ve Been A C*nt”.
Not for one moment do I imagine that Mail Online would knowingly allow such an obscenity to appear on their pages, in amongst incisive articles on potentially pregnant men, or potentially life-saving erectile dysfunction pills.
Indeed, the potentially offensive advert has now been removed, I note, seemingly along with all adverts, at least for the time being.
It should never have been allowed to happen, but I am so glad that it did.
Well done chaps!
