Saboteurs Sending Incendiary Packages to EU and UK Detained in Poland

Polish prosecutors have confirmed the arrest of four individuals accused of involvement in international sabotage activities. The suspects are alleged to have dispatched incendiary parcels that ignited during air transportation.

Two additional suspects have been identified and placed on an international wanted list, according to Polish prosecutor Katarzyna Kalu-Jaszewska.

The operation, coordinated by Polish security forces, highlights a concerning uptick in sabotage efforts reportedly orchestrated by foreign intelligence services. According to Kalu-Jaszewska, investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of individuals involved in this network, including efforts in collaboration with law enforcement from other European Union countries.

The detainees stand accused of engaging in sabotage activities allegedly connected to a foreign intelligence agency. These operations reportedly targeted industrial facilities and critical infrastructure, such as airports, aircraft, and transport hubs within Poland and throughout the EU. Prosecutors contend that the group’s actions involved packaging explosive and hazardous materials disguised as standard parcels, which were then dispatched via courier services to several European countries, including the United Kingdom. During transit, these parcels are said to have ignited or detonated, creating significant disruptions and posing substantial risks to logistics facilities and public safety.

Authorities also disclosed that the group intended to test these delivery methods as part of a broader plan, ultimately aiming to ship similar parcels to North America, specifically targeting the United States and Canada.

The Internal Security Agency (ABW), Poland’s primary intelligence agency, has reported an uptick in sabotage activities directed against Poland, EU member states, and NATO allies. In an assessment, ABW linked these incidents to coordinated efforts by Russian intelligence services. The agency noted that numerous investigations are underway into acts of sabotage, with oversight from Polish prosecutors. Approximately 20 individuals face charges connected to these activities, with ABW and Polish police leading the investigative efforts.

This operation is part of a larger, cross-border probe into incendiary parcels sent across Europe. German authorities previously reported an incident at DHL’s logistics centre in Leipzig, where a parcel ignited while awaiting shipment. The fire, which could have been disastrous aboard an aircraft, was contained on the ground, reportedly due to fortunate timing. A similar case has been confirmed at a DHL warehouse in Birmingham, UK, where investigations are ongoing.

Media sources have indicated that these incendiary packages, which ignited within DHL logistics hubs in both Germany and the UK, were traced to Lithuania. Authorities suspect the senders used falsified identification details to dispatch the parcels, further complicating the investigative process.
